Who we are

Eight at 8 is a daily trivia game at eightat8trivia.com (also reachable at play8at8.com). Every day we publish eight multiple-choice questions on a single topic; the questions appear in our YouTube videos, and players submit their answers on this website. This policy explains what information we collect, why, and what choices you have. If you have a privacy question or request, email us at [email protected].

You can play without telling us anything

Guests can play Eight at 8 without registering and without providing a name or email address. Registration is optional — it exists so your streak, scores, and leaderboard standing can follow you across devices.

What we collect

If you register, we collect:

• Your email address. We use it to sign you in with a magic link. We do not ask for or store passwords; sign-in is handled by our authentication provider.
• Your handle. When you register, you claim a handle once. It is shown publicly on your share cards and the leaderboard.
• Your game entries. The answers you submit for each episode, your scores, streaks, monthly averages, and the time each entry was submitted (recorded by our server).

We also keep basic technical logs — things like the time a page or email request was made and error information — which help us run the site, keep accounts secure, and fix problems.

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13, and registration is limited to people 13 and older. The service is not directed to children under 13.

How we use it

We use the information above only to run Eight at 8: to sign you in, record your entries, grade answers, calculate streaks and standings, display the leaderboard, send you the sign-in emails you request, and protect the game against cheating and abuse. If we ever run contests or send optional emails about the game, we will say so clearly, and any future contests will be governed by separate Official Rules.

We do not sell your information

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing. Full stop.

Service providers we rely on

We use a small number of providers to operate the service, and they process information only as needed to do their jobs for us:

• Supabase — our database and sign-in (authentication) provider.
• Resend — delivers our sign-in emails.
• Cloudflare — hosts the website and provides DNS and security.

Our episode videos are embedded from YouTube (Google). When a page contains an embedded video, YouTube may set its own cookies and collect information according to Google's own privacy policies, which we do not control. Playing or interacting with an embedded video is subject to YouTube's terms.

How long we keep it

We keep account information and game entries for as long as your account is active, so your streaks and history stay intact. Technical logs are kept for a shorter period and then discarded. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete the personal information associated with it, except anything we are required to keep for legal or security reasons.

Your choices and rights

You can email us at [email protected] at any time to:

• Ask what personal information we hold about you,
• Ask us to correct it, or
• Ask us to delete your account and associated data.

We will respond to requests within a reasonable time. You can also stop using the service at any time — guest play never required an account in the first place.

Security

Accounts are protected by magic-link sign-in through our authentication provider rather than passwords stored by us, and access to our systems is limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will post the updated version on this page and update the effective date at the top. If a change is significant, we will make a reasonable effort to point it out on the site.
